Agriculture: Needs and Importance in Human Life

What is Agriculture?

Agriculture is nothing more than the cultivation of soil in which we grow food, crops, and raise livestock. This practice of farming began in the time of our ancestors. But as time has passed, the scope of agriculture has expanded. It's no longer limited to farming, but also includes forestry, aquaculture, processing, and the transportation of agricultural products. Through all these activities, agriculture improves the lives of rural people and contributes to the country's economic development.

 Main aspect of agriculture

i.       Soil Cultivation

ii.  Crop Production

iii.  Raising of Livestock

iv.  Soil Management

v.   Empowerment of rural population

vi.  Environmental sustainability

vii. Economic growth

viii. Food security

 Soil Cultivation:

Soil cultivation means breaking up the clods of soil by ploughing and drilling and leveling it to make the ground smooth. This work is done through different agricultural machinery. The purpose of this process is to maintain moisture in the soil so that the seed can absorb water from the soil and start its embryonic process, i.e. the process of germination.

Crop Production:

Crop production begins with seed sowing and continues until the final stage, i.e., harvesting. It involves several steps such as seed sowing, application of manure and fertilizers, irrigation arrangements, protection from weeds and pests, and finally, harvesting the harvested crop. This entire process ensures that the crop grows well and yields a better yield.

Rising of Livestock:

Livestock farming depends on the farmer's ability and knowledge. It includes many forms of animal farming, such as goat farming, native bird farming, dairy farming, and duck farming. If livestock farming is to be done on a commercial scale, i.e., on a large scale, it requires specialized knowledge—such as the right feed for each animal, knowledge of their diseases and medications, understanding their gestation period, and maintaining proper records. Only by keeping all these things in mind can livestock farming become successful and profitable.

Management of Soil:

Soil management is the practice of conserving, protecting and enhancing soil nutrition and fertility for sustainable use of agricultural soil and other use.

There are various scientific methods are using in soil conserving, like use of green manure  in the agriculture land and less or right use of fertiliser in the crops so that wastage can be reduced. To enhance productivity of crops we are using heavy amount of fertilizer for which soil degradation is happening. For which soil management is needed for the Substantiable use for future generation.

 Empowerment of rural population:

Agriculture is the main livelihood for rural population. It also provides skill and economic stability to the rural population. Now, government is taking initiatives to empower farmers by giving resilient agriculture methods. Through agro-forestry and water management. Farmer are also adopting various modern agriculture techniques and sustainable methods to achieve higher agriculture yeilds and diversifying their income stream.

 Environmental Sustainability:

Environmental sustainability means increasing agricultural productivity for the current generation while conserving natural resources and maintaining them organically for future generations. A variety of methods and principles are used for this, such as crop rotation and organic fertilization, which is made from the remains of farmland, livestock, and forests. Environmental sustainability also includes the use of efficient irrigation systems to conserve water and keep natural ecosystems strong and resilient.

Economic growth

Agriculture not only enhancing and streamlining the rural population but also it contributing major role in economic growth of a country. It supplies food and raw material to different industrial sector in large and small scale industry and generates greater Employment Opportunity and earns foreign exchange. A strong agriculture sector is a most important foundation for economics transformation of a country.

Food and security:

Food security in agriculture is defined as availability, accesses, utilization, and stability of nutritional food that meets the dietary need of human being.

Conclusion:

Agriculture is the backbone of human civilization and remains one of the most vital sectors for the world's survival and development. It not only provides food and raw materials, but also provides employment to millions of people worldwide. In today's age, when technology is advancing rapidly and challenges like climate change are looming, the need for sustainable and innovative agriculture has only increased. If we combine traditional knowledge with modern science, we can increase productivity and preserve natural resources for future generations. Ultimately, the development and stability of any country depends on the strength and sustainability of its agriculture.
